Common Ground Canberra Community Day 11 April 2015
VIEW INVITATION HERE

Join us on Saturday 11 April between the hours of 11.00am to 2.00 pm to view the building known as Common Ground Canberra.

Common Ground Canberra is an innovative approach to providing permanent secure housing for our most vulnerable people.  The common ground model was developed in New York by Rosanne Haggerty, the model has been hugely successful in supporting people to rebuild their lives, to regain their self-esteem, and the model has shown to be a success in Adelaide, Melbourne, Queensland and Sydney.

The ACT and the Commonwealth Governments gave a commitment to build the first Common Ground Canberra in 2013 with the first sod being turned in December of that year.  The building is now in its final stages of completion.

Common Ground Canberra promotes social inclusion and introduces opportunities for surrounding communities.

Common Ground Canberra has received great support from IKEA Canberra who have provided the furnishings for many of the apartments and for the ground floor common areas.  We are also pleased to announce that the Canberra Quilters through their “Quilts for Others” program have made a quilt for each resident.

Based in Gungahlin the project offers wrap around support to tenants providing a range of services provided by Northside Community Services with the tenancy management being provided by Argyle Community Housing.

You are invited to a guided tour of the ground floor and a couple of furnished apartments.

The builder of Common Ground St Hilliers will be on hand to show visitors on the day and there will also be a sausage sizzle and soft drink with a gold coin donation going to Common Ground.    The Common Ground Board and volunteers will be available to answer any questions as will Argyle Community Housing and Northside Community Services.  We look forward to welcoming you on the day.
